POKE n,m - Yepee !
There are plenty of POKE addresses, with more or less efficiency.
However, many games have built-in cheat features. Seems to me these are missing from the www Spectrum scene.
Here is a list of cheats I collected over the years.
Army Moves
Arkanoid 1
Play until the score allows you to enter a high score. Enter your name as PBRAIN. The message “space to cheat” will appear. If pressed, the game continues from the point it was interrupted instead of starting from the beginning.
Arkanoid 2
Play until the score allows you to enter a high score. Enter your name as MAAAAH. The message “space to cheat” will appear. If pressed, the game continues from the point it was interrupted instead of starting from the beginning.
Batman 3 (The Movie)
During the game, press MICK simultaneously to advance to the next level.
Chase HQ
Redefine the keys as SHOCKED[ENTER]. The game test menu will appear. Follow the indications provided there.
Chronos
Play until the score allows you to enter a high score. Enter your name as JING IT BABY. On the main menu, a new entry will reveal, the Megalaser (position 7). You can turn it on or off.
Cybernoid 1
- There are two versions of Cybernoid 1. For both of them you must redefine the keys:
- demo version: redefine the keys as KG88; the demo version can be identified as it only has two levels (after which the game loops); you start a new game with 5 lives, each new life with 20 bombs, 20 mines, 3 shields, 5 bounces and 6 seekers; when finishing a level, the congratulation or failure message is shown on relatively full screen; you can download the demo version from this site, here
- full fersion: redefine the keys as YXES; the full version can be identified as it has more than two levels (but I have no idea how many; I have never played more than middle of level 3 :); you start a new game with 4 lives, each new life with 20 bombs, 20 mines, 1 shield, 5 bounces and 5 seekers; when finishing a level, the ship lands and the congratulation or failure message is shown on the bottom part of the screen
- For both versions this toggles the infinite lives status.
Cybernoid 2
Darius
During the game, type SENFTENBERG. The border will flash shortly. Press C to advance to the next level.
Dizzy 1
During the game, enter the “pause” mode. Type NOOTRAC4571. You can browse through the game map.
Dizzy 2 (Treasure Island)
On main menu, press AOP[ENTER] simultaneously ([ENTER] or fire). During the game, press C. You can browse through the game map.
Dizzy 3 (Fantasy World)
On main menu, press ADFPW[ENTER] simultaneously ([ENTER] or fire). During the game, press C. You can browse through the game map.
Dizzy 5 (Spellbound)
On main menu, type IWANTANOMLETTE. The border will flash. During the game, press C. You can browse through the game map.
Dizzy 6 (Prince of the Yolkfolk)
On main menu type IAMSTUARTSIDLEY. During the game, press C. You can browse through the game map.
Dizzy 7 (Crystal Kingdom)
On the options menu, press TURBO simultaneously. You will have infinite lives.
Egghead 1
On main menu, type CHIC COMPUTER CLUB. The game test menu will appear. Follow the indications provided there.
Exolon
F.I.R.E.
Redefine the keys as ROBxxx (x = don’t care). The border will flash. This toggles the invulnerability status.
Game Over 1
Game Over 2 (the english version of Phantis)
Gauntlet 3
On intro menu, type HELEN JOHNSON. After each key press, you must wait for the pixels to calm. The message “cheat mode on” will appear. During the game, enter the “pause” mode. Press [SYMSHIFT] to bring up the cheat menu.
Hysteria
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
- On main menu, press DOT simultaneously. During the game, press:
- [CAPS]+1 to go to start of current level
- [CAPS]+2 to go to the next starting point from the current level
- [CAPS]+3 to advance to the next level
Little Puff in Dragon’s Land
During the game, press DRAGON simultaneously. The game freezes. Press 1+[CURSOR_KEYS] to browse through the game map.
Logo
- The access codes are:
- CODE to go directly to level 5
- GAME to go directly to level 10
- DISK to go directly to level 15
Magic Fields
During the game, enter the “pause” mode. Press IELO simultaneously. You will have infinite time.
There are also other valid combination with the same result, based on key groups QWERT - YUIOP - HJKL[ENTER].
Midnight Resistance

Nebulus
During the game, press NEB[CAPS] simultaneously. Then, press [CAPS]+n where n is the key 1 to 8. You will be taken to the level n.
New Zealand Story
On main menu, type FLUFFY. The message “cheat” will appear. You will have infinite lives. During the game, press [ENTER] to advance to the next level.
Night Breed
 to go directly to level 2
 to go directly to level 3
 to go directly to level 4
 to go directly to level 5
 start game from level 1, with infinite energy
Ninja Massacre
- The access codes are:
- SNOW to go directly to level 05
- EASY to go directly to level 10
- RACK to go directly to level 15
- BLUE to go directly to level 20
- STAG to go directly to level 25
- HULL to go directly to level 01 (?)
- BEAR to go directly to level 01 (?)
- BARD to go directly to level 01 (?)
Operation Wolf
When the game starts and when “Communications Setup” message appears on screen, press GIVEUP simultaneously. The border will flash. During the game, press T to advance to the next level.
Phantis
Potsworth
On main menu, press DAVE simultaneously. The upper border will flash. You will have infinite energy.
Puzznic
During the game, press the key assigned for “retry”. When the “retry” menu comes up, type HELPME. You will have infinite retries.
If/when redefining keys, you must not use the letters E, H, L, M, P.
Quick Draw Mc Graw
On main menu, press SETUIOP simultaneously. A noise will be generated. You will have invulnerability
Robocop 2
Redefine the keys as MSYULE. The message “cheat active” will appear. During the game, press GTI simultaneously to advance to the next level.
Renegade 3
On main menu, press QT simultaneously. The border will flash. During the game, press QT simultaneously to advance to the next level.
Scooby and Scrappy Doo
On main menu, press HELP simultaneously. You will have infinite lives.
Shinobi
St Dragon
- On main menu press X. The access codes are:
- BATWINGS to go directly to level 1
- PRANGLES to go directly to level 2
- BINGBONG to go directly to level 3
- OVENDOOR to go directly to level 4
- WETWATER to go directly to level 5
- BLIBBLOB for infinite lives
- SLOBBERS for total immunity
- NESTEGGS for a nasty +3 Spectrum disk copy program; you cannot return to game anymore
Stormlord 1
On main menu, type BRINGONTHEGIRLS. The flashing menu will freeze. On 128K version, a short music will be heared. Press one of the keys 1, 2, 3 or 4. You will be taken to that level respectively. You will also have infinite lives.
Stormlord 2
Switch Blade
Play until the score allows you to enter a high score. Enter your name as SLOPPY. Press fire while keep pressing one of the keys 1, 2, 3, or 4. You will be taken to that level respectively.
The Untouchables
Play until the score allows you to enter a high score. Enter your name as HUMPHREY BOGART. During the game, press QWE simultaneously to advance to the next level.
The Vindicator
- The access codes are:
- VALSALVA MANOEUVRE for part 2
- EUSTACHIAN TUBES for part 3
Thunder Blade
When on main menu, select Sinclair Joystick. When the secondary menu appears (“A Joystick Speed Control”, “B Keyboard Speed Control”), press GO simultaneously; the border will flash and the game freezes for about 1 second. Continue normally by selecting either of the two options (you then have to reselect the Keyboard if needed). During the game, press [ENTER] to advance to the next level.
Wild West Seymour
- The access codes are:
- 21D135008 for level 2
- 10C700068 for level 3
- 238A35008 for level 4
